Wadi Rum Bedouin Camp
We have different options for you to spend your nights in Wadi Rum, such as our Bedouin camp, sleeping in a cave, camping under the stars or staying with a Bedouin family. If you are interested in one of these options, please contact us so we can make the necessary arrangements.
Bedouin Camp:
The camp lies 12 km from Rum village, about 20 minutes drive, against the red rocks in the heart of the protected desert area. Surrounding the camp is the desert between the high Khazali and Rum Mountains, meeting in sharp contrast with the Red and the White desert. It is ideally based for hiking, and lots of interesting desert features within short walking distance of the camp.
Our camp has the approval of the Jordan Government. This is important because Wadi Rum is a protected area, therefore it is vital that human presence and their activities do not harm or destroy the area so that future generations can enjoy this magnificent location.
The camp is simple, authentic & comfortable. There are colorful tents made from traditional goat's hair, a kitchen, toilets and showers(hot water heated with solar power). We have 15 tents that can host two to four people each, one large tent that host groups up to sixteen people, and another large tent that serves as a communal area where we serve breakfast and dinner.
The tour comes to an end as the sun melts behind the mountains into the sand; watch the sun leave the sky while drinking our traditional Bedouin tea. The first stars appear and a typical Bedouin dinner, cooked in the Zarb, is served in the communal tent lit with gas lamps and electricity provided by solar panels. After dinner, you can relax on the large cushions and chat more with us about the Bedouin lifestyle. Or you can light a fire in the open space near the tents and just relax with your friends and the other visitors, or gaze at the stars.
When ready to sleep, some prefer to take their light mattress under the heavy desert sky, a place loaded with glistening and shooting stars. It may be a bit chilly, but don’t worry we will provide you with all the blankets you need.
You will be greatly rewarded if you awake early enough to see the mystic light of the sunrise that pours softly into the valley. A delicious Arabic breakfast will be served.
Sleep in a Cave:
Before Bedouins started making the goat hair tents that you will see scattered all over Wadi Rum, they used to sleep in caves. For a romantic night under the stars, safe from all elements, you could be sleeping in a cave, complete with mattress, blankets, candles and chicha(water-pipe).
Bivouac camping:
If you prefer to "get away from it all" and sleep out in the wild desert, that can also be arranged. Mattresses, pillows and blankets are provided, and tents upon request.
Stay with a Bedouin Family:
Many Bedouins are still living undisturbed in the desert. For an authentic experience, you can stay in a remote area with a family who still make their living with camels, sheep and goats. Enjoy a home-cooked meal and a peaceful evening around the campfire.
